Co Institute of Massage Therapy
Types of Massage
Swedish / Relaxation

Used primarily in a full-body session. Promotes general relaxation, relieves muscle tension, and improves range of motion and circulation. It utilizes a system of long, relaxing strokes, friction and kneading techniques for wellness, preventative and maintenance care.

Deep Tissue

A technique that targets deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is designed to help release chronic muscle tension using slow, deep and specific touch.

Neuromuscular/Trigger Point Therapy

One of the most effective ways of treating chronic pain. Uses precise application of pressure to hyper-irritable points in an overworked or injured muscle. These trigger points often refer pain to other muscles causing pain and dysfunction such as ischemia, nerve entrapment or compression and postural distortion. Neuromuscular/Trigger Point Therapy techniques are used to break the pain/spasm cycle and for injury rehabilitation.

Sports

Used to prepare athletes for activity and help them recover afterwards by increasing circulation of blood and lymph and helping to remove lactic acid. It is also used to reduce muscle fatigue and to break down adhesions thereby helping to prevent injury.

PUSH® Therapy

A specialized muscle therapy designed to treat chronic pain and tension in the soft tissue. Soft Pressure Stimulation technique is carefully and systematically applied to muscles and soft tissue, restoring blood flow and oxygen essential for muscle relaxation. Click here to find out more.
